Defining the notion of National Security is a company that includes many risks. The difficulty is explained at first by the fact that this concept has great semantic plasticity, and therefore can be applied to all aspects of social life. This paper studies the elements that shaped the strategies used by the different countries of the Latin American region to deal with threats such as organized crime, drug trafficking and even terrorism, particularly in Mexico, where currently Congress evaluates the need to update the National Security Law to adapt it to the new geopolitical context.
